Croissance - Helenya Apostolou

Cette série est née après mon retour dans le nord du Pays de Galles suite au confinement entraîné par l'épidémie de Coronavirus. La beauté naturelle de mon environnement était si inspirante, surtout en avril et en mai, lorsque au printemps les fleurs commençaient à s'épanouir. A la suite du workshop auquel j'ai participé avec Jasmine Justice en février, je me suis intéressée aux dessins, aux traits et aux formes naturelles. Mon travail s'est alors focalisé sur mon appréciation du monde naturel et des formes libres et organiques. La juxtaposition de ces images, associée à un éclairage artificiel, permet d’explorer des pratiques artistiques opposées. L’intention originale de cette recherche se révèle dans le mouvement de l’œuvre, qui propose une peinture immobile en lumière blanche et une courte animation en stop-motion lorsque les lumières passent du rouge, au vert, au bleu.

This series arose from my return to North Wales since the Coronavirus lockdown. The natural beauty of my surroundings was so inspiring, especially during April and May when springtime forced flowers into bloom. After the workshop I took part in with Jasmine Justice in February, I was already interested in line drawings and natural forms, so this work materialised as the physical formation of my appreciation for the natural world and loose, organic shapes. The juxtaposition of these images when paired with bold, artificial lighting poses as an interesting take on my exploration into opposites within artistic media, expanding on the concept and applying it differently. The original intention of this investigation is apparent in the movement aspects of this work, which offers a motionless painting when in white light and a short, stop-motion animation when the lights change from red, to green, to blue.
